It’s Hard to be Sad When You’re Eating Ice Cream

I don’t know about you, but I feel for those children on the first day back of school. Whenever school ends for the summer, there’s a whole lot of days to fill with whatever you want. Sure you  may have chores or a job, but you should get rewards (pay?) for that, the rewards for going to school are a lot less tangible and the time horizon for getting them is a lot longer. The day that freedom ends must be jarring. In the UK, we only ever had about 6 weeks and going back was terrible. I hate to think how hard it would have been if I’d been off 14 or more weeks.

Run “Back to School” promotions. When my children were in school, I got a lot of calls asking for frozen custard to be sent to the school for a class (normally with about 15 minutes notice no matter how often I explained that frozen custard mix doesn’t thaw immediately). We sent it as often as we could – always to a great response.

As I’ve said before, it’s hard to be sad when you’re eating ice cream. Give the kids another reason to look forward to going back to school.

With best wishes,

Tony
